Molecular Epidemiology of HCV Infection among Multi-Transfused β-Thalassemia Patients in Eastern India: A Six-Year Observation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background: HCV infection is very common in multi-transfused β-thalassemia patients who need regular blood transfusions. Aim: The study was conducted to determine the epidemiology of West Bengal, India. Methods: Over a span six years, samples were collected from sero-reactive and processed for viral RNA isolation followed by nested RT-PCR qualitative viremia detection. genotype determined amplifying partial core gene DNA sequencing NCBI genotyping tools. Phylogenetic phylogeographic studies performed with MEGA-X BEAST software, respectively. Results: Out 917 patients, 598 (65.21%) positive while 250 (41.80%) had spontaneously cleared virus. A significant percentage male rural areas (p = 0.042) economically backward class 0.002) at higher risk infection. Female thalassemia individuals belonging ages 11–15 years chances spontaneous clearance. most prevalent circulatory 3a (78.26%) 1b (12.04%). Phylogeographic analyses revealed that strains share genomic similarities Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, whereas Vietnam, Russia, China. Uncommon subtypes 3g 3i also detected. Conclusion: high prevalence among India indicates NAT-based assays should be implemented screening donor eliminate 2030.

Background: Recurrent blood transfusion is a common treatment in patients with thalassemia. The development of antibodies against red blood cell (RBC) antigens complicates RBC cross-matching, enhances the in vivo destruction of transfused cells, accelerates tissue iron overloading, delays the provision of safe transfusion, and reduces health-related quality of life. Materials and Methods: In t...
متن کاملseroprevalence of hcv antibody among patients with β-thalassemia major in amirkola thalassemia center, iran
β- thalassemia major is a common hemoglobinopathy in humans. in some journals, numerous studies have reported different prevalence of hepatitis c among β- thalassemia major because thalassemic patients need multiple blood transfusions and blood transfusion is a common transmission pathway for hepatitis c virus. thus this study was performed for detection of anti-hcv between β- thalassemia major...
متن کاملMolecular epidemiology of β-thalassemia in Pakistan: Far reaching implications
β-thalassaemia, an autosomal recessive hemoglobinopathy, is one of the commonest genetically transmitted disorders throughout the world. Collective measures including carrier identification, genetic counseling and prenatal diagnosis are required for preventing β-thalassemia. To achieve this objective, Identification of the spectrum of genetic mutations, especially for various ethnic backgrounds...
